Chester is Open!!
We’re beyond excited to announce that Abba Cakes Chester has officially opened at 35 Lower Bridge Street, just a short stroll from the River Dee. Saturday 11th October 2025 was a day to remember as we welcomed customers into our brand-new café — our second home after Hoylake — filled with laughter, fresh coffee, and of course, lots of cake.
From Market Street to the Heart of Chester
When we first opened our little take-out cake shop on Market Street in Hoylake, we couldn’t have imagined how quickly our community would grow. Abba Cakes Hoylake will always be our first love and isn’t going anywhere — it is the place where Laura and the team began sharing their passion for beautiful, handmade cakes.
Now, just a few years later, we’ve expanded to a second location, to bring that same warmth and creativity to Chester. The new shop is bigger, with space to sit in, relax, and enjoy Britain’s Best Cake with a freshly brewed coffee.
A Home with History
Our new Chester home sits inside a beautiful Georgian townhouse built in 1717. During the renovation, we uncovered original brickwork towards the back of the shop — a glimpse into the building’s past when it may have served as the kitchen for its original owner, local businessman John Warrington.
What used to be a modern beauty clinic is now something altogether different — a pastel-pink, flower-filled haven of cakes, coffee, and charm. Locals stopped by almost daily during the fit-out to peek through the windows and watch the transformation take shape, adding to the excitement before opening day.
Opening Day — Sweet Success
The big day finally arrived on Saturday 11th October, and from 10 am to 5 pm, the shop was buzzing. The ribbon was cut by the Bishop of Chester, Mark Tanner, who blessed the new space alongside owner Laura Alejandra. Friends, long-term customers from Hoylake, and curious locals all came to celebrate the opening — and by the end of the day, almost everything had sold out.
Our award-winning Chocolate Cake — crowned Britain’s Best Cake 2025 — sold out completely within hours despite 5 full cakes being on hand to sell by the slice. Customers also enjoyed slices of brownies, blondies, loaf cakes, and tall layered creations, along with tarts, apple pies, and our freshly brewed Colombian coffee.
The new café layout lets customers see right into the kitchen, watching our talented pastry chefs at work. Inside, flowers, antique decorative plates, and two original church pews (our “Narnia seats” from St Andrew’s Church in Bebington) make the space feel warm and full of stories.
More Than Cake
Abba Cakes Chester is not just a place to grab a sweet treat — it’s a space to slow down and savour. Whether you’re catching up with friends over coffee, celebrating something special, or just treating yourself, we want everyone to feel at home here.
We’re also now taking custom cake commissions for weddings, birthdays, and all kinds of celebrations — handmade with love by our team of pastry artists.
A Thank-You from Us
To everyone who came out to support us — thank you. Your encouragement, smiles, and kind words made our opening day unforgettable. To our Hoylake regulars who travelled over to wish us well, we’re so grateful. And to the people of Chester — thank you for the warmest of welcomes.
We’re excited to continue to share our cakes, coffee, and joy with you in our beautiful second home.
